Blaze the Cat is a cat princess from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. introduced to the series in Sonic Rush. Blaze first appears alongside Mario characters in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for the Wii.

Profile[]

Powers and abilities[]

Possessing the ability of pyrokinesis, she is the princess of an alternate dimension and the guardian of the Sol Emeralds, her world's equivalent to the Chaos Emeralds.

Personality[]

Blaze starts out withdrawn and aloof until she meets Cream the Rabbit, who, along with Sonic and others, teaches her the meaning and value of friendship.

She is also featured as a playable character in every installment in the Mario & Sonic series, and she is of the All-Around type. Blaze is fast and has the most power and the lowest skill of any female character in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. Blaze has also made cameo appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series since Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games[]

Blaze is a playable character of the All-Around type in both the Wii version and the Nintendo DS version. Blaze is fast and has the most power and the lowest skill of any female character.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games[]

Blaze retains her role of being a playable character in both the Wii version and the Nintendo DS version of the game. She is once again a Power type excelling in Speed.

In Adventure Tours Blaze has a minigame called "Move the blocks"; in this minigame she must use her fire powers and move the signed blocks to the same signed floor. If the player makes a mistake, the player can move Blaze to the red button and reset the puzzle by pressing it.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (Wii)[]

Blaze reappears as a playable character of the All-Around type. She is now voiced by Laura Bailey, reprising her role from 2010's Sonic Free Riders. In this game, Blaze wears her athletic wear from Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for most Events, her winter gear for Equestrian events and a new outfit for Gymnastics and Aquatics events. In the opening, Blaze appears at the start with all of the other athletes, as well as competing in Synchronized Swimming and Dream Uneven Bars. An updated version with the athletic wear of the Mii outfit appears, and Blaze is also a character that can be spoken to in order to play minigames and earn stickers in London Party mode.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (Nintendo 3DS)[]

Blaze is a playable character in the Girls group, so she is only playable in certain events involving that group. A badge of Blaze can also be obtained from the badge machine.

Blaze is one of the characters with a role in Story Mode. She is first seen protecting a group of Toads with Peach from some Fog Imposters, which they manage to defeat and then save Daisy and Amy. Blaze later destroys the Fog machine in Hyde Park after rescuing Rouge the Bat from being brainwashed. Blaze decides to stay behind in Hyde Park with the other girls, Rouge, and the Toads to keep an eye on things there. She later calls Mario, Luigi, Sonic and Tails to support them when they face Bowser and Dr. Eggman, and appears at the opening ceremony for the games. In the bonus episodes, Blaze appears volunteering to help with the invitations with Peach, the Toads and Amy, and challenges Amy to an Olympic Event to try to stop her when she asks to deliver Sonic's invitation personally. Although Amy wins, Blaze manages to accidentally knock the invitations onto the floor, so Amy decides to stay anyway to help pick them up. Blaze later helps Peach when she tries to stop Daisy from taking Amy on a shopping trip. Blaze helps to mail the invitations out, and after the group concludes that Bowser and Dr. Eggman got their invitations, Blaze tries to head back to the hotel, but is convinced to go on a shopping trip with Peach, Daisy, Amy and the Toads instead.

Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games[]

Blaze is a playable character. She is classified as an All-Around character, as usual, and retains her winter outfit from Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. In Legends Showdown, Blaze is partnered with Mario, Princess Peach, and Silver. There is another Mii costume of Blaze, which has a specific unlock criteria of having to complete Short Track Speed Skating 1000m with all three laps having a lap time of at least below 11.5 seconds.

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games[]

Blaze returns as a playable character. Another Mii costume of Blaze was added in the Wii U version. It can be obtained by completing Blaze's Carnival Challenge, although in two separate parts.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020[]

Blaze returns as a playable character. She wears outfits that are event-appropriate. Her voice actor was changed to Erica Lindbeck.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

Blaze appears in the form of a support spirit. A fighter equipped with it gains the "Mouthful of Curry" effect, allowing them to breathe a stream of constant fire as if they were under the effects of Superspicy Curry.
