The Big Venus Fire Trap (also called the Super Venus Fire Trap) is an enemy appearing in the New Super Mario Bros series. It is larger than the Venus Fire Trap that breathes fire. Big Venus Fire Traps are usually more durable than basic Venus Fire Traps. Big Venus Fire Traps are commonly found in caverns and mountains.
Five Big Venus Fire Traps also appear in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS as their debut. They appear in Tiny-Huge Island on the Huge Island. They attack by sprouting from the ground and breathing fireballs. The Big Venus Fire Traps can be defeated with punches and kicks. After all 5 are defeated, the Power Star appears, in the remake, the Big Venus Fire Traps can be defeated alternatively by either ground pounding the nearby stake for a Mega Mushroom or by swallowing one of the fireballs as Yoshi and breathing the fire back at it.
Depending on the game, they can differ from a standard Venus Fire Trap in several ways, in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U, Big Venus Fire Traps shoot larger fireballs while in New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Maker, they behave identically to a standard Venus Fire Trap and shoot normal-sized fireballs with the only difference being their size. Unlike a Venus Fire Trap, it takes 3 fireballs to bring down a Big Venus Fire Trap, Koopa Shells and other projectiles can also be used to defeat a Big Venus Fire Trap. If an Iceball is used on a Big Venus Fire Trap, it will break free instantly due to it's size.
- Despite not appearing in the game, Big Venus Fire Traps were planned to appear in New Super Mario Bros. as enemies but were cut from the final build of the game. In the game, they were going to spit normal-sized fireballs just like in New Super Mario Bros. 2.
