Biddybuds are ladybug-like enemies that first appear in the game Super Mario 3D Land. They are small two legged creatures that come in a variety of colors ranging from red, yellow, blue, green, and even pink. They also have polka-dots on their heads and a black face. and normally walk back and forth or in squares. They can be defeated by jumping on them or by using a power-up. Biddybuds also have a winged sub-species called Para-Biddybuds which possess the ability to fly around. Biddybuds tend to reside in outdoor locations and are shown to be slightly timid as they are seen making alternating high-pitched and low-pitched sounds whenever one goes near them.
In Super Mario series[]
Super Mario 3D Land[]
Biddybuds make their debut in Super Mario 3D Land. In this game, they appear as common enemies first appearing in World 1-3. They are commonly seen walking along set paths in set patterns continuously either back and forth or in square formations, Biddybuds commonly walk together in groups (often times with one of each color) and unlike Goombas (who charge at Mario/Luigi upon sight), Biddybuds don't tend to pester the plumbers whenever they approach. Biddybuds can be defeated with stomps or the effects of a Fire Flower, Boomerang Flower, Super Leaf, Statue Leaf, Starman, or an Invincibility Leaf. The Biddybuds also have a winged sub-species called the Para-Biddybud. Para-Biddybuds can fly and are more common than their wingless counterparts.
Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[]
Biddybuds reappear in Super Mario 3D World as well as Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, acting similarly to how they did in Super Mario 3D Land (walking in set paths and patterns in groups). This time however, their appearance is more gnome like and slightly more glossy. Biddybuds can also appear in larger groups than before and don't appear as commonly as they did before (primarily appearing in levels such as Mount Beanpole and Sunshine Seaside). Biddybuds can be defeated with stomps or the effects of a Fire Flower, Super Leaf, Super Bell, Boomerang Flower, Lucky Bell, Starman, Invincibility Leaf, or Invincibility Bell. Para-Biddybuds also appear in this game being very common.
Cat Biddybuds and Cat Para-Biddybuds appear in the Bowser's Fury side of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury behaving similarly to their normal counterparts.
In Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[]
While Biddybuds themselves do not appear, the Biddybuggy kart is designed after them.
In Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker[]
Biddybuds return in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker once again as a regular enemy, acting similarly to how it does in previous games, they once again walk around in large groups in either straight or square pattern formations however this time, they can also follow different patterns as well. Unlike most enemies, Biddybuds don't attack Captain Toad and Toadette upon sight being one of the few enemies to not actively act aggressive towards them however they can still harm the Toads upon contact so be careful. Biddybuds can be defeated with either Turnips or the Super Pickax. They can also be defeated by dropping onto them from above, Biddybuds appear in levels such as Biddybud Snow Stroll, Para-Biddybuds also appear in this game.
In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[]
Biddybuds also appear as enemies in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. They can be found very early in the game at Sunbeam Plains and are always seen battling in stacks. Biddybuds often attack by dropping from their stacks and walking at Mario or Luigi (similar to the Fly Guy deployed Goombas method of attack in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team). This attack can be dodged or countered with a jump. They can also attack whilst stacked which causes them to stumble and falter. If the stacked Biddybuds are jumped on or if Dropchopper or Cannonball Chuck are used on them, they all take damage. Biddybuds are encountered again at Mount Brrr much later on in the game however these Biddybuds are much stronger and tougher than the ones in Sunbeam Plains however their attacks are the same.
In Mario Tennis Aces[]
Biddybuds appear again in Mario Tennis Aces as non-playable characters in the Adventure Mode. They can be seen in Piranha Plant Forest watching the Tennis rounds play out, other than that, they have no impact on the rounds and are mainly seen as spectators.
In Mario Golf: Super Rush[]
Biddybuds are back in Mario Golf: Super Rush. In this game, they appear as obstacles in the course Wildweather Woods. During the rounds, the Biddybuds are typically seen walking in set patters in groups (as they do in the mainline Super Mario games). Biddybuds will briefly stun players who run into them but they can be stomped on for coins as well.
In other media[]
The Super Mario Bros. Movie[]
Biddybuds appear in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, fulfilling the role of wild animals. They cause no harm to anybody, and don't seem to be on anybody's side. None of them play a big role besides cameos.
