Super Mario Mario Party Paper Mario Super Smash Bros.

Beehives are the homes for bees in both the real world and the Mario franchise. Their first appearance in a Mario-related title is Donkey Kong 3, but the first time a Beehive appears in the Mario franchise is Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins.

In Donkey Kong 3[]

Beehives are obstacles knocked on by Donkey Kong to dispatch the bugs. In the blue and gray greenhouses, Donkey Kong uses his fists on the beehive, and in the yellow greenhouse, he uses coconuts.

At the yellow greenhouse, Stanley has to force Donkey Kong into a beehive at the top, followed by the beehive falling onto his head. In the arcade version, this is followed by a cutscene of Donkey Kong twitching and scrambling to get the beehive off. Donkey Kong falls down to the ground and the beehive breaks open from impact, revealing Donkey Kong to have a partially swollen face and a puffy right eye.

In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario Sunshine[]

Beehives are obstacles in a few of the levels. They appear in episode 8 in Bianco Hills, and every episode in Gelato Beach and Pianta Village. If Mario gets near a beehive or knocks it down by spraying it, the bees will swarm him, causing some damage if he gets stung. Yoshi can eat the bees, and if he manages to, a Blue Coin is revealed.
