Batadon SML sprite

Batadon is an enemy in Super Mario Land. Batadon is a stone head creature with wings that can only two Easton Kingdom levels: World 3-1 and World 3-3.

Physical Appearance[]

Batadontachi are moai heads with wings behind the ears. In artwork for Super Mario Land, they are portrayed as yellow-orange. Their Mario Kart World design depicts them as light yellow and gives them a more bottom-heavy shape, like the Tokotoko.

History[]

In Super Mario Land[]

The Batadon usually appears hopping along the ground in Super Mario Land. Upon noticing Mario, it flies and tries to attack him. Mario can defeat a Batadon by either jumping on its head before it takes flight or by tossing three Superballs at it. Defeating a Batadon earns Mario 800 points.

In the manga adaptation, a Batadon is the first enemy encountered when Mario makes his way through the Easton Kingdom. He becomes furious upon learning that Mario ruined one of the statues, so the creature calls some Tokotokotachi and others of his kind as backup. Mario stops the Tokotokotachi and Batadontachi by yelling "Red light!", but the moai monsters realise that he pulled a trick, so they continue the assault. Mario then gets tangled in a spiderweb, but the moai monsters accidentally free him in their attempts to attack the plumber, and the Suu venom destroys them in his place.

In Mario Kart World[]

Batadontachi return in Mario Kart World, where they are featured in the Desert Hills course, replacing the Pokeys in the original version, and they only appear in the open section of the course.
