Mario Kart

Bangkok Rush is a race course that first appeared in Mario Kart Tour. Making its debut in the Bangkok Tour during the year 2022, it is located in Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (Bangkok in English and Krung Thep colloquially), Thailand's capital city, hence the name. The Booster Course Pass pack in the Switch version of Mario Kart 8 would feature this course in the Boomerang Cup.

Layout[]

As with the other city courses from Mario Kart Tour, there is more than one route for Bangkok Rush. The first route, which appeared in the Bangkok Tour, goes trhough the Chao Phraya River and Maeklong Railway Market and goes through a counter-clockwise loop. The second route, which appeared in the 2023 Winter Tour, goes through a figure-8 circuit with a large clockwise loop and a small counter-clockwise loop, going through a parking garage called the Esplanade Ratchadaphisek and a night market chain known as the Talat Rotfai. The third route, which also appeared during the 2023 Winter Tour, goes through the Giant Swing and Democracy Monument, though it starts in the opposite direction to the other two, going clockwise.

In Mario Kart 8, the racers go through the first route for the first lap, lap 2 would start out as the second route, then transition to the third route, and lap 3 would start out as the third route, then transition to the second route.

Trivia[]

  • This course marks the third time the racers cross the finish line going in one direction three times in a race track (including when they start the race) and once in the opposite direction in the Booster Course Pass, the other two being Paris Promenade (which also appeared in Mario Kart Tour) and DS Peach Gardens. Unlike those courses, they cross the finish line in the reverse direction to start lap 3, and finish the race going in the direction they started in; see the trivia point below.
  • This is the third city course to start the third lap in the opposite direction to the other two in the Booster Course Pass, the first two being Sydney Sprint and Berlin Byways. Going off the previous point, unlike those two courses, as the racers transition to Bangkok Rush 2 (which crosses the finish line in the same direction as Bangkok Rush 1) partway through the final lap, they start and end in the same direction.
  • Bangkok Rush is one of two City Courses whose starting line has Item Boxes, the other being Amsterdam Drift. In both cases, the Item Boxes show up at the start of the final lap. Unlike Amsterdam Drift, however, Item Boxes appear at the start of the second lap as well.
