Super Mario Yoshi

Baby Yoshis are newborn Yoshis hatched from Yoshi Eggs. They have appeared in several Mario and Yoshi games alike, and made their overall debut in Super Mario World.

In Mario franchise[]

Super Mario World[]

Baby Yoshis appear in the Star World. They are found in green, red, blue, and yellow colorations. Mario and Luigi can feed them five enemies to have them become the regular Yoshi of the same color. Each type of Baby Yoshi receives unique abilities once they become an adult Yoshi. If a baby Yoshi is carried through to the Goal Post, Mario or Luigi earn a 1-up.

Mario Paint[]

Green Baby Yoshis, depicted with their sprite from Super Mario World, appear as a stamp for the Art Mode and an instrument for the music mode. In music mode, the Baby Yoshi sound effect is reused from the Yoshi sound effect in Super Mario World.

New Super Mario Bros. U[]

There are three Baby Yoshis, each with their own unique abilities. None of them can become a regular Yoshi like in Super Mario World, regardless of how many enemies they eat.

Yoshi's Story[]

Several baby Yoshis live on Yoshi's Island where they use their Super Happy Tree to collect fruits for their kind. Baby Bowser steals the tree and the Yoshis team up to defeat the evil Koopa.

Yoshi's Island DS[]

At the very end, a baby Yoshi appears as the seventh Star Child.

In Paper Mario series[]

Paper Mario[]

Baby Yoshis are named Yoshi Kids, and one group in particular is named the Fearsome 5. When they were first encountered on Lavalava Island, they were being watched over by Sushie, though they were thinking up plans of their own. When Mario later returned to the village after he discovers that the path to Mt. Lavalava is inaccessible, the older Yoshis are going berserk over the Yoshi Kids' sudden disappearances. Mario helped Sushie down from the tree that they trapped her in and found all five Yoshi Kids.

Super Mario-kun[]

Six Baby Yoshis are the main characters in volumes 19 and 20 of the CoroCoro Comics manga Super Mario-kun, which cover the events of Yoshi's Story. They each have unique personalities and appearances, and accompany Mario and Poochy on a quest to retrieve the Super Happy Tree from the clutches of Baby Bowser. Throughout the story they are referred to as T.C.Y., or "Team Chibi Yoshis". Each of them has a page dedicated to their introduction with a four-panel comic that displays an outstanding aspect of their personality.
