Super Mario

Baby Luma, also referred to as Young Master Luma or simply Luma, is a character who first appears in Super Mario Galaxy and returns in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Profile[]

Powers and abilities[]

Baby Luma has the power to grant Mario or Luigi the power to Star Spin, briefly appearing above his head for a few seconds after they perform the move.

Baby Luma also pops out of Mario's Cap or Luigi's Cap (depending whom he is traveling with) to move around briefly whenever Luma and Mario or Luigi return with a Power Star to the Comet Observatory in Super Mario Galaxy or Starship Mario in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Biography[]

Luma's story is chronicled in Rosalina's Story. Luma finds a young Rosalina and requested her to help him. After repairing a rusted spaceship, Rosalina took Luma on a long search for his mom. One day, the two of them found an icy comet that Luma said his mother traveled on, but the Luma's mother could not be found. Rosalina and Luma gave up hope of finding Luma's mother. Luma later helped Rosalina use the tools she had discovered within the comet to build themselves a home. The building would be finished eventually, though it was large in size for just Luma and Rosalina.

Luma later fought with another Luma that arrived from a comet over Rosalina's love. More Lumas soon arrived, and Rosalina decided to become their mother.

One night, Luma found Rosalina crying and tried to comfort Rosalina, asking why she was crying. Rosalina told Luma that her mother died and that she refused to believe it until then. Rosalina thanked Luma, and the two hugged one another.

Luma transformed into the Comet Observatory to provide a new home for Rosalina and the other Lumas. However, Luma was later reborn and and nurtured for by Rosalina until he became a full grown Luma again.

In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario Galaxy[]

Luma is first seen in the form of a Star Bunny. After catching Luma and his two companions, he reveals Rosalina to Mario. Rosalina then bestows Luma upon Mario, granting Mario the Star Spin ability. From hereon, Luma assists Mario throughout his journey, staying in Mario's Cap at all times and only popping his head out after performing a Star Spin.

In the ending, Luma and all of the other Lumas fly towards the black hole, and turn into new galaxies.

In the secret ending, unlocked by obtaining all 120 Power Stars, Luma is in the Gateway Galaxy, near what is presumed to be the spaceship that Rosalina rode with him.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[]

Baby Luma accompanies Mario throughout his journey, just like in the first Super Mario Galaxy. In the prologue, Mario encounters Baby Luma while on his way to Peach's Castle. Baby Luma immediately likes Mario and flies into Mario's Cap, granting him the Star Spin move again. Shortly before their journey starts proper, Mario and Baby Luma encounter other yellow Lumas, who call Baby Luma "young master Luma," and send both off to the Sky Station Galaxy. When Mario meets Lubba later on, he thanks him for finding Baby Luma.

In the ending, when Rosalina arrives on her Comet Observatory, she reveals that she always knew that Baby Luma would rejoin Mario at some point. Before leaving with Rosalina, Baby Luma promises to never forget Mario and takes his cap as a souvenir.

In Mario Golf: World Tour / Mario Sports Superstars[]

Baby Luma makes a cameo in the scene for whenever Rosalina scores either an eagle, an albatross, or a hole-in-one. As an added detail, Baby Luma is wearing Mario's cap, just like in the ending of Super Mario Galaxy 2.
