Baby Coins (also called Character Coins) are a type of large Coin found in Yoshi's Island DS. These coins are found throughout the levels of the game, each level contains one Baby Coin. The Baby Coins resemble a large sparkling coin with one of the babys' face imprinted on it, a Yoshi can only collect a Baby Coin if he is carrying the correct Baby seen on the coin (otherwise, a dotted outline will appear in the Baby Coin's place). Baby Coins usually require the respective baby's ability to obtain and unlike regular coins, cannot be obtained with eggs. In the earlier worlds of the game, there is usually a Stork Stop not to far away from the Baby Coin however, starting with World 4, the Baby Coins start requiring some extra skill to reach. Every 8 Baby Coins that are collected will unlock a hard minigame in the minigames mode (with the exception of the last one where the last 7 Baby Coins are required instead). The Baby Coins can only be collected by Baby Mario, Baby Peach, and Baby Donkey Kong respectively and there are 39 Baby Coins in all with 13 each being divided amongst the three babies.

Trivia[]
- Likely due to the nature of the levels, there are no Baby Coins in At Last, Bowser's Castle as well as any of the Secret or Extra levels.
- In the game's files, there exists unused sprites of Baby Wario and Baby Bowser Coins which seems to indicate that they were once going to be permanent babies at one stage, the sprites are fully functional as well, they just weren't used in any of the game's levels.
