Axem Rangers

The Axem Rangers are a teenage squad of fighters within the Smithy Gang who stole the sixth star piece from Mario and his party, and are major antagonists and bosses in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and its upcoming 2023 remake.

In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars[]

Mario first encounters the Axem Rangers atop Barrel Volcano while searching for the sixth Star Piece. The Axem Rangers steal it after Mario and his party defeat the Czar Dragon.

These melee wielding enemies are no pushovers as this can be a difficult fight in the game. Since there are five of them, that means five attacks each turn. Using an onslaught of thunder attacks from someone like Mallow can easily weaken them, allowing a finishing blow from Geno or Mario. The rangers also use the help of their giant Axe-shaped flying machine, Blade. Blade can do nothing except use the deadly Breaker Beam every other turn. This attack pierces defense and attacks the entire party.
