Mario Tennis

Artist on the Court is a minigame which appears in Mario Power Tennis. It takes place in the Grass Court of Peach Dome.

Gameplay[]

The player has five minutes (ten in the New Play Control! version) to color in a mural of a Mario character in the middle of the court by hitting it with paint balls that appear from Warp Pipes. Paint balls come in varying colors, especially when less of the mural is colored in, but once all areas of a certain color are filled in, paint balls of that color stop appearing from the Warp Pipes. A fully-colored reflection of the mural is shown on the ground, and it can be used as a guide on how to color in the picture and therefore where to try and hit the paint balls. A paint ball acts like a bucket fill tool in photo editing software, and it does not affect the mural if it hits an incorrect portion of it. Some portions of a mural cannot be filled in without doing a lob shot.

The HUD consists of a paint percentage at the upper-left to tell how much of the picture has been colored in and the countdown time at the upper-right. The minigame ends once the entire mural has been colored in. If the character has not colored in the entire mural when time runs out, they lose.

In the New Play Control! version, aside from having a time limit doubled in length, Artist on the Court was also made easier by how the color of whichever ball has been hit automatically fills in every portion of the mural corresponding to that color.

List of levels[]

There are five difficulty levels, each having different characters to color in:

Trivia[]

  • An arrangement of the "Inside the Castle Walls" theme from Super Mario 64 plays during this minigame.
