Arc is a character from Mario & Luigi: Brothership. He is the son of Patriarc.

Profile[]

Physical Appearance[]

Arc is a small, green-skinned Concordian. His outfit consists of a dark blue beret with a compass attached to it and a sailor's uniform.

Personality[]

Arc is knowledgeable on ocean currents, due to his goals of following in his father's footsteps as an explorer.

History[]

Backstory[]

Prior to the game's events, Arc found his spyglass after Technikki, who created it for a contest in what would later become Merrygo Island, threw it into the sea after she lost.

Later, when Zokket tore Concordia apart, Arc and his father were stranded on Raynforst Island, and later kidnapped by Snaptors taken to one of the Great Lighthouses. Arc escaped when his father stuffed him into a capsule, which would later wash ashore on Shipshape Island after the Bros. link Rumbla Island to it.

Arc makes his first appearance in the game when Mario and Luigi, having linked Rumbla Island, spot Arc's capsule and receive a map from him. The map shows the locations of the other islands, where Maykit and Billdit ended up. Upon getting their hammers from the first child of Chief Willma, Mario and Luigi bust open Arc's capsule. Following his liberation, Arc explains how to use the map, which proves key in finding the second child.

Throughout the game, Arc serves as the player's guide on currents. Additionally, there is a side quest involving his spyglass, which he cares a lot about. The Bros. can find it on Raynforst Island.

During the final leg of the game, Arc ends up one of Reclusa's victims after it wakes up and captures many in its flowers. He breaks free after the Bros. defeat and kill Reclusa. During the ending cutscene, Arc and Furen hang out, when Patriarc returns. Arc and his father hug as they reunite.

Behind the Scenes[]

Etymology[]

While the name itself is a common name, where Arc derives his name from can be any number of sevral sources, with one referring to a curved line relating to his expertise in mapping, Noah's Ark (a Biblical ship), an electric arc (an electrical breakdown of a gas that produces a prolonged electrical discharge), or an island arc (referencing Arc's ability to track drifting islands on currents).
