An Appleby is a ground-dwelling species from the Wario series. It appears in Wario Land 3 as an enemy and in Dr. Mario 64 as a playable character and as a boss in the Story Mode. It has some association to apples in all of its appearances, hence its name, although it could also be a reference to the real-world restaurant Applebee's.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

An Appleby is a pink-colored creature (red in its Wario Land 3 sprite) with a round body, large eyes, and a pair of hands. The lower part of an Appleby's body, which is seldomly seen due to them dwelling within the ground, has a tail without hind limbs. It is unknown what particular species Appleby is based on.

Behavior[]

In Wario Land 3, Applebys sometimes appear within the background, where they throw an apple at Wario. Applebys have also been shown to be aggressive, particularly when their apples are stolen, such as in Dr. Mario 64's Story Mode in which an Appleby gets into a fight with Wario upon assuming that he stole its apple.

In Wario Land 3[]

Applebys are encountered in a few levels. If Wario touches an apple thrown by an Appleby, he turns into Fat Wario. Wario can defeat an Appleby by either Ground Pounding it, throwing an object at it, or from performing a Dash Attack.

In Dr. Mario 64[]

Appleby DM64

Appleby is fought as a boss in Story Mode as he became angry from assuming Wario stole his apple. Appleby is one of the playable characters in other modes.
