Ant Trooper (アリへい Ari-hei?, Ant Soldier) is a purple ant. enemies that appear in Super Mario 3D World. They are not hurt by jumps, so Mario and co. merely bounce off when they jump on Ant Troopers. Ant Troopers merely walk in a line with other Ant Troopers, ignoring Mario and co. whenever they get close. Ant Troopers can also walk on walls and ceilings. In the same game, there are Big Ant Troopers and Horned Ant Troopers as well. Later, in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, they appear in groups of 10 but can be beaten through any attack (unless they have a spike helmet on them).

Profile

Physical description

An Ant Trooper is a round, dark purple ant. Its head is larger than its torso. It has glowing pupils, yellow eyes, a mouth, and a stubby antennae on its head. It has red feet and two thick, slightly darker stripes on their bodies. These enemies are a bit taller than Mario.

Behavior

The Ant Trooper can walk around obstacles without falling to the ground. It ignores the player when they are around but the player can lose a life when it touches the Ant Trooper. However, the player can bounce on the Ant Trooper, but it does not mind the player.

In Super Mario 3D World

Ant Troopers appears as enemies in Super Mario 3D World. Ant Trooper Hill introduces the Ant Troopers. They also appear near the end of Champion's Road.

In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam

The Ant Troopers' horned variations, Horned Ant Troopers appear as enemies in Twinsy Tropics Dungeon. The Horned Ant Troopers will jump and dive with their helmets pointing at either Mario or Luigi. The victim can counterattack them with their helmets. If the Horned Ant Troopers dealt enough damage from Mario or Luigi, they will lose their helmets to become normal Ant Troopers. The Ant Troopers will dash into the victim while the victim can jump and stomp on its head. If the number of Ant Troopers in battle decrease, several Ant Troopers will retreat from battle.

If the player completes an area in World 12, Ant Troopers appear along with Stingbies.
