Super Mario Dr Mario Tennis Mario & Luigi

Not to be confused with Ant.

Ant Trooper (アリへい Ari-hei?, Ant Soldier) is a purple ant which first appeared in Super Mario 3D World as an enemy. It is notable for its appearance in Ant Trooper Hill. Ant Troopers reappeared in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam as enemies. In other spin-offs, they appeared as spectator for Mario Tennis Aces and as an assistant in Dr. Mario World.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

An Ant Trooper is a round, dark purple ant. Its head is larger than its torso. It has glowing pupils, yellow eyes, a mouth, and a stubby antennae on its head. It has red feet and two thick, slightly darker stripes on their bodies. These enemies are a bit taller than Mario.

Behavior[]

Ant Troopers merely walk in a line with other Ant Troopers, and do not actively pursue Mario or another playable character. An Ant Trooper can walk around obstacles without falling to the ground, and it can also walk on walls and ceilings. It ignores the player's character when they are around, but the character can lose a life if they touch the Ant Trooper. However, the character can bounce on the Ant Trooper, although it does not mind them and does not take damage this way.

In Super Mario 3D World[]

Ant Troopers appear as enemies. They are first encountered in Ant Trooper Hill, where they are the main feature. They also appear near the end of Champion's Road. An Ant Trooper sometimes carries an item on its back, such as a power-up item.

An Ant Trooper can be defeated from either a Ground Pound, Cat Mario's claw swipe, Tanooki Mario's tail swipe, Rosalina's spin, or a projectile.

In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[]

The Ant Troopers' horned variations, Horned Ant Troopers appear as enemies in Twinsy Tropics Dungeon. The Horned Ant Troopers will jump and dive with their helmets pointing at either Mario or Luigi. The victim can counterattack them with their helmets. If the Horned Ant Troopers dealt enough damage from Mario or Luigi, they will lose their helmets to become normal Ant Troopers. The Ant Troopers will dash into the victim, who can jump and stomp on its head. Ant Troopers appear in groups of ten, and if the number of them in battle decreases, several Ant Troopers will retreat from battle.

An Ant Trooper is an assistant. In Stage Mode, when at least four viruses are eliminated at the same time, the Ant Trooper can fill the skill meter and the amount depends on its skill level. The player can unlock the Ant Trooper after they clear Stage 441, the first area of World 12.

If the player completes an area in World 12, Ant Troopers appear along with Stingbies.
