"(Angry sigh.) All the fish have been scared off by that guy. I can't get any fishing done with him around..."
—The Angler complains about his fishing career being ruined when Bowser wreaks havoc with his flying fortress.

The Angler is a minor character in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. He is a Poplin inhabiting a house near the Pipe-Rock Plateau area.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

The Angler looks like the other Poplins with his light-orange skin and black eyes with white pupils, but his bud, hijab, and shoes are cyan. His paraphernalia consists of a fishing line with a yellow handle.

Personality traits[]

Not much can be gleaned regarding this character's personality, but from what is revealed, when Bowser went on a rampage with his flying fortress, all of the fishes were scared off, preventing the Angler from fishing and rendering him depressed over it.

In Super Mario Bros. Wonder[]

The Angler Poplin is one of many Poplins encountered. The Angler Poplin in particular lives on Petal Isles, near Pipe-Rock Plateau. He is first encountered in his house, where Mario and company overhear him bemoaning the lack of fish, caused by Castle Bowser scaring them off. After Prince Florian assures him that they will stop Bowser, the Angler Poplin provides the party with their first Wonder Seed from the Petal Isles.

After the heroes collects the Wonder Seed from his House, the Angler Poplin can be seen on the Petal Isles world map. He will appear in different locations as the player progresses and collects Royal Seeds. Upon interacting with him, the Angler Poplin will mention fishing up strange bottles, which contain various gameplay tips. After collecting all Royal Seeds, the Angler Poplin gives 30 flower coins when spoken to.

The Angler Poplin also appears in the ending sequence, celebrating the defeat of Castle Bowser alongside the Master Poplin, the Loyal Poplin, and others.

Nomenclature[]

The Angler Poplin is called "Fisher Poplin" in most languages (Spanish Poplin Pescador, Portuguese Poplím Pescador, Italian Poplino Pescatore, French Poplin Pescheur, German Fischer-Poplin, Russian Poplin-rybak (written Поплин-рыбак)). In Dutch, his "name" is Vissende Poplin, literally "fishing Poplin." In Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, he isn't given a proper name, but these translations do highlight his love of fishing in his dialogue boxes.
