amiibo (アミーボ amiibo) are a series of toys-to-life objects usable in various Nintendo software. They are near field communication-based figurines that can have data read and written on them. amiibo serve as add-ons to amiibo-compatible games, although usually only to a minor extent. Each amiibo is typically of a Nintendo character, and they were released in various lines of a certain series or franchise, such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, or Animal Crossing. The first amiibo were launched on the same day as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the first game to feature amiibo support.

In Mario Party: Star Rush[]
The game features a two-player mode titled Mario Shuffle that is centered around the use of amiibo functionality.
In WarioWare Gold[]
Amiibo are the focus of the microgame amiibo Tap, in which the objective for the player is to place an amiibo, which can be either of Mario, Yoshi, Peach, or Samus, onto the New Nintendo 3DS. In levels 2 and 3, the player has to avoid putting any other object onto the system, and one of these objects in level 3 is a fake Mario amiibo with a clay design.
In Yoshi's Crafted World[]
Scanning any amiibo incompatible with the game unlocks the amiibo Box, a costume based on the amiibo's packaging and an indirect successor to amiibo Yoshi from Yoshi's Woolly World.
Crossover appearances[]
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[]
To use an amiibo, the player must place it on the square sensor part of their Wii U GamePad to activate it. The player is free to name their amiibo and customize it using special power-ups found by either clearing through Classic Mode or by playing Smash Tour. This is a way for the player to customize their own Amiibo to make it stronger and level up (with 50 being the highest level they can reach).
Trivia[]
- In Mario Party: Star Rush's Mario Shuffle mode, playing as Bowser Jr. utilizes an amiibo of him based on the Super Mario line, even though no such amiibo figure had been released. The in-game amiibo of Bowser Jr. gives him a pose based on his artwork for Mario Party 9.
