Albert Einstein was a German scientist in real life who is famous for his discoveries of modern physics, especially the formula for mass-energy equivalence, E=mc^2. He first appeared in the The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! live-action segment "9001: A Mario Odyssey" and later returned in Mario's Time Machine for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

In Mario's Time Machine (NES)[]

Einstein's Physics Equation, which holds his famous E=mc2, is one of the items that Bowser had stolen. After retrieving the item, Mario has to time travel back to the year 1905 and return the Physics Equation to Einstein.

There is a paradox, possibly a programming oversight, in which Einstein tells Mario that he moved to the United States of America in the 1930s even though Mario traveled back earlier than that.

In the live-action segment "9001: A Mario Odyssey," Einstein invented the HAL 9001 computer and pizza machine for Mario and Luigi. After Einstein leaves, the computer starts to malfunction.
