The 8 bits (魔夢族 Mamū-zoku?, Mamu Family) is the name of an army that Wart commanded to take over Subcon. They make their first and main appearance in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and its overseas conversion Super Mario Bros. 2. In the former game, it is revealed that the 8-bits are created from the Dream Machine. The 8 bits are spread and encountered throughout almost every area of Subcon.
In BS Super Mario USA[]
In the Satellaview-broadcast sequel to Super Mario Bros. 2, the 8 bits return to Subcon some time after taking refuge in another dream when they were defeated by Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad. Their return causes Subcon's ruler, Ōsama, to go into hiding and call upon the heroes' assistance in defeating the 8 bits once more.

Most of the 8 bits make an appearance, with the notable exception of Wart. The 8 bits organization is not featured because they instead serve King Koopa, as part of the Koopa Troop. Panser is the only regular enemy of the 8 bits to not appear anywhere within the show.
