"7 Continents for 7 Koopas" is the twenty-second episode of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. During syndication, the episode has been paired with "Up, Up, and a Koopa."
Synopsis[]
After trapping Mario, Luigi, and Toad in the Mushroom World, King Koopa assigns each of the Koopalings to take over one of Earth's seven continents. It is up to Princess Toadstool to thwart his plans.
Plot[]
Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Toadstool are about to enjoy a nice swim when they see the Doomship, which is suffering from a radiator leak, and they dive into the water to avoid being seen. King Koopa orders the Koopalings to draw water from the lake; they do just that, accidentally sucking Peach up with the water. Having saved his Doomship from overheating, King Koopa orders his kids to report to the control room, and Princess, unnoticed by the Koopas, follows them and eavesdrops. King Koopa flies the Doomship to Earth, after which Kooky activates the Koopa Klogger, a device that, as the Mario Bros. and Toad soon find out, prevents them from following the Doomship through the pipe it went through. Koopa then assigns and sends the Koopalings to take over the seven continents in a divide-and-conquer style not unlike their takeovers in Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World:
- Bully invades Asia, and paints graffiti on the Great Wall of China.
- Kooky invades Africa and turns all the animals into stuffed animals.
- Cheatsy invades Australasia, and transforms all the people in into kangaroos, with the exception of a man similar to Crocodile Dundee, whom he turns into a shrimp.
- Big Mouth invades Antarctica, and builds an abominable snowman with which to terrorize the penguins.
- Kootie Pie invades Europe and transforms all the paintings and statues in the Louvre so that she is the featured subject in all of them.
- Hip invades North America and takes over all of its television stations hosting his own telethon. He demands all the viewers to give him their money or he won't restore the television channels.
- Hop invades South America and turns the Amazon Forest into a parking lot.
Back onboard the Doomship, Princess attempts to turn off the Koopa Klogger, but King Koopa catches her in the act and has a Chain Chomp tie her up. She manages to break loose, though, by annoying a nearby Bob-Omb into exploding, but not before she throws it at the Koopa Klogger, destroying it. Now able to use the warp pipes, the Marios and Toad join her in foiling the Koopalings' exploits, forcing them and Koopa to retreat back to the Mushroom World.
Trivia/Goofs[]
- The episode's title comes from the play Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
- "I'm a Hurricane" is the episode's song.
- Hop's invasion of South America is a reference to the song "Big Yellow Taxi" and the line "they paved paradise and put up a parking lot".
- When he and the Marios resurface, Toad seems to shout "Frog Princess Toadstool's been Koopnapped!", despite the obvious fact that Princess wasn't wearing a Frog Suit (something a character would normally wear to be referred to as "Frog [name]").
- When Koopa tells Hip to take over North America, Hop follows him out of the room. But he is still there for King Koopa to tell him to take over South America in the next shot.
- Kooky/Ludwig says he turned the animals in Africa into stuffed animals, but the animals are still in their normal state.
- During the scene where Toadstool destroys the Koopa Klogger and grabs a parachute from the floor (which came out of nowhere), there's a cloud with eyes in the background, even though this is taking place on Earth.
- Princess's dress sleeve appears when she grabs Cheatsy's wand, despite the fact that she's supposed to be wearing a bathing suit.
- After Mario takes Hop's wand, Hop climbs up a tree, but in the close up of him in the tree, he is now Hip!
- When we first see Big Mouth in Antarctica, the back of his head is the same color as his skin, and to make matters worse, his shell is pink!
- When Kooky is running from the wild animals, his entire face turns orange!
- When the Doomship monitor show Cheatsy in Australia, his face turns orange until he turns the man into a shrimp!
- When King Koopa reacts to see the Koopalings on screen, the Antarctica screen has Princess in her regular clothes instead of her swimsuit. Also, Toad can be seen on one of the monitors, despite having not appeared in the preceding montage.
- In the scene where Princess Toadstool grab's Cheasty's wand, not only does Princess's dress sleeve appear, but Cheasty's head becomes brown.
