Mario in a 1-Up Room
1-Up Rooms,[1] also named 1-Up Chambers,[2][3] are hidden areas in Super Mario World. They are accessed through certain Warp Pipes in various levels. 1-Up Chambers consist of five horizontal floorboards, each with three Prize Blocks within it. If Mario or Luigi jumps onto a floorboard, he cannot return to the one below him. The topmost floorboard has a Warp Pipe leading back into the main level.
With each tier, the goal is for Mario or Luigi to jump at the Prize Blocks in a certain order, which is always randomized. If Mario or Luigi jumps at the correct first and second Prize Blocks each, he earns a coin, followed by a 1-Up Mushroom in the third Prize Block. Jumping at the first one or two Prize Blocks in the correct order turns each one into an O/X Block. If Mario or Luigi jumps at a Prize Block in the incorrect order, every Prize Block in its row turns into a Brown Block.
There is an exploit where Mario or Luigi can perform a Spin Jump in Caped form on the left side of each Prize Block in a given row and have the order be considered correct, provided the blocks are hit from left to right.[4] This is easier to do from a standing position, as riding Yoshi alters the character’s trajectory. This method does not work in the Game Boy Advance remake Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2.

| Donut Plains 3 | In a yellow Warp Pipe next to the fourth Dragon Coin, accessible by riding a Pulley Lift after the Midway Gate. |
| #2 Morton's Castle | In a green Warp Pipe hidden in a ceiling passage at the top left of the first room. This pipe requires Caped Mario to reach. |
| Vanilla Dome 3 | In a green Warp Pipe hidden in a ceiling passage to the top right of the first pair of orange pipes. This green pipe requires Caped Mario or a midair jump off Yoshi to reach. |
| #4 Ludwig's Castle | In a green Warp Pipe hidden at the top right end of the first room, accessible via a false block in the ceiling just before the door leading to the second room. |
| Forest of Illusion 3 | In the second blue Warp Pipe from the start of the level, below the third Bob-omb in a bubble. |
| Chocolate Island 5 | In the first yellow Warp Pipe. It is sealed off by Brown Blocks, requiring the Switch Block to its left to be pressed to uncover it. |
| Valley of Bowser 1 | In a blue Warp Pipe hidden in a ceiling alcove up and to the right of the Grab Blocks concealing the pipe to the Giant Gate. This pipe requires Caped Mario or a midair jump off Yoshi to reach. |
| Valley of Bowser 3 | In a yellow Warp Pipe guarded by a red Koopa Troopa parallel to another yellow pipe, right after the third Dragon Coin. |
