Le Voltpignon est un objet récurrent dans la série Paper Mario. Dans le premier Paper Mario, c'est un champignon jaune avec des pois blancs et un petit éclair. Dans la séquelle, Paper Mario : La Porte Millénaire, sa couleur devient bleu foncé avec les éclairs qui remplacent les pois.
Dans les deux opus, le Voltpignon est utilisable en combat pour électrifier Mario, ce qui inflige des dégâts à chaque ennemi qui entre en contact avec lui. Ça permet aussi de sauter sur les adversaires électriques sans se prendre de dégâts.
Dans Super Paper Mario, le Voltpignon permet d'électrifier Mario et de paralyser les ennemis en fonçant sur eux sans se prendre des dégâts. Il faut appuyer sur les boutons A, 1 et 2 tels qu'ils sont indiqués dans l'écran pour accroître la durée de l'effet.
